How long does the process take to license property?
Approximately 8-10 weeks.
How much does it cost to license the land?
This will be determined by how the land is used and how many acres are licensed.
Can I plant trees?
Yes, you can. However, the licensee shall not at any time, plant in the ground any trees, brush, plants, or any other foliage that can exceed a height of fourteen feet (14') above existing grade within fifty feet (50’) of any FPL facility, including but not limited to structures and overhead circuits. The licensee may plant and keep vegetation capable of reaching any height within fifty feet (50’) of FPL facilities as long as it is in containers of twenty-five (25) gallons or less in size and the vegetation is at all times kept under fourteen feet (14’) in height.
Can I have an office on the land?
Yes, and as the licensee, you will be responsible to obtain a permit, if required.
Can I have electricity on the property?
Yes, licensees can have electricity on most sites, but will need to confirm this with FPL for the specific site of interest.
Can I build a fence?
This is based on the property selected. The licensee will need to confirm if electricity is available on the land being licensed.
Do I need permits?
Yes, if required by the county.
How long can I license the property?
Contract terms vary. Most contracts are 5-year agreements but can range from one to 10 years.
What are the insurance requirements?
Minimum of $3 million, general liability, for each occurrence.
